Three words. That's all it took. It had been a long time since I had said them out loud to somebody.
I had known I wanted to say them. My lips parted with the words on occasion, but stifled them still. I didn't want to say it first. Silly, looking back. I wondered if he would speak those words, the ones we twirled around. Hinting at yet never quite directly said.
"I love you," as he looked at my face, then leaned into my cheek and hair. It was boyish, sweet. And told of an uncertainy. Would I say it back?
Of course I would.
I couldn't say it enough. And neither could he.
